For years, like most English readers, I simply saw LORD where the four-letter Name appeared. But LORD is not a transliteration of the Name at all—it is a replacement title. The Jewish tradition of avoiding the spoken Name eventually led scribes to substitute words such as Adonai and LORD instead of actually sounding the four letters.
Then the discovery became even more powerful, because YAHU also opened up our understanding of YAHUSHA. The SHA/SHUA Hebrew root is associated with rescue or deliverance and uses YAHUSHA as the Hebrew Name connected with deliverance. So now the restored sound was not merely an academic pronunciation exercise—it connected us directly with the Name of Deliverance.
