  • SCREEN ADDICTION

THE BRIEF: Global statistics and research regarding social media, gaming and multimedia devices on a young person's mindset, social skills, education, cerebral development and behaviour. Is it the new drug addiction behaviour for the younger generation? AI EXPLANATION: This is a serious and well-studied question—and the honest answer is: there are real parallels to addiction, but it’s not as simple as “screens = drugs.” The effects depend heavily on the type of use, duration, content, and the child’s environment. Below is a grounded, research-based breakdown across the areas you asked about. 1. GLOBAL USAGE PATTERNS (what kids are actually doing) Children aged 9–11 average several hours per day on digital media (video, gaming, social media combined). Large longitudinal studies (4,000+ kids) show: ~40–50% display high or escalating “addictive-style” usage patterns (phones/games). In Australia specifically: ~2–3% meet criteria for gaming disorder ~10% show smartphone addiction symptoms 👉 So this is not fringe—it’s widespread and growing. 2. BRAIN DEVELOPMENT (cerebral structure & function) A child's brain is considered fully developed in the mid-to-late 20s, generally around age 25. While the brain reaches about 90% of its adult size by age 5, the prefrontal cortex—the area responsible for planning, impulse control, and decision-making—is the last to mature, continuing to develop through adolescence. Key Stages of Brain Development: Birth to Age 5: Massive growth; the brain reaches 80% of adult size by age 3 and 90% by age 5. Adolescence (10–24 years): Intense remodelling and fine-tuning occur, driven by experience and hormonal changes. Mid-to-Late 20s (approx. 25): The frontal lobes fully develop, completing the maturation process. Although structural development largely stops around 25, the brain retains the ability to adapt and change throughout life. SO A CHILD'S BRAIN IS STILL DEVELOPING UNTIL 25 !!! What research actually shows (important nuance) A major 2024 MRI study (4,500+ children): No major overall change in cortex development from general screen use BUT: Subtle changes in the striatum (reward system) in some groups A broader review: Digital addiction is linked to changes in brain structure and function, especially in: reward circuits attention networks impulse control systems Other studies: Altered brain chemistry and connectivity in addicted youth Impacts areas for decision-making, memory, and emotional regulation 👉 Translation: Not “brain damage” in a simplistic sense—but measurable rewiring in systems tied to reward, attention, and control. 3. DOPAMINE and “addiction-like” behaviour This is where the “new drug” comparison comes from. Social media and games trigger dopamine release loops (reward anticipation → hit → craving) Design features amplify this: infinite scroll notifications unpredictable rewards (likes, wins, loot boxes) These mimic variable reward schedules, the same mechanism used in: gambling machines addictive substances (indirectly via dopamine pathways) Evidence: Brain scans show patterns similar to behavioural addictions Researchers explicitly describe “internet addiction” altering brain chemistry 👉 Key distinction: It’s behavioural addiction, not chemical ingestion But the neural pathways overlap 4. COGNITIVE EFFECTS (attention, learning, education) Strong evidence here: Gaming addiction is linked to: reduced attention impaired memory lower learning performance Large-scale cognitive studies: Heavy social media use → lower reading, memory, and vocabulary scores General findings across 100+ studies: Higher screen time correlates with: anxiety lower academic performance behavioural problems 👉 Mechanism: Constant stimulation → reduced ability to sustain focus Multitasking → shallow processing instead of deep learning 5. SOCIAL SKILLS & BEHAVIOUR Consistent trends across research: Negative associations Reduced face-to-face interaction → weaker: empathy conversational ability Increased: irritability aggression (in some cases) emotional dysregulation Concerning behavioural patterns Avoiding real-world activities Sleep disruption Emotional dependency on devices Extreme cases (documented clinically): Withdrawal symptoms when devices removed Loss of interest in real-world relationships 6. MENTAL HEALTH RISKS Some of the strongest evidence: High addictive use → 2–3× higher risk of suicidal thoughts/behaviour Links to: anxiety depression low self-esteem body image issues 👉 Important nuance: Risk is tied more to addictive patterns and content, not just total screen time. 7. NEW DRUG ADDICTION? Where the comparison is accurate? ✔ Same brain systems involved (dopamine, reward, habit loops) ✔ Compulsive use despite harm ✔ Withdrawal-like symptoms ✔ Tolerance (needing more stimulation) Where it differs? ✖ No external chemical ingestion ✖ Effects are more behaviourally conditioned ✖ Can be beneficial in moderation (learning, social connection, skills) 👉 Best scientific framing: “Behavioural addiction with neurobiological overlap to substance addiction.” 8. WHAT ACTUALLY MATTERS MOST (this is crucial) Research is very clear on this: It’s NOT just screen time—it’s: 1. Type of content Passive scrolling → worst outcomes Educational / creative use → neutral or positive 2. Pattern of use Compulsive, uncontrollable = risk Structured, limited = manageable 3. Displacement effect What is being replaced? Sleep? (major issue) Physical activity? Real relationships? 4. Age vulnerability Ages 9–14 are especially sensitive due to: brain plasticity identity formation reward system development Bottom line Yes—there is real scientific evidence that: digital media can shape brain systems addictive patterns exist behaviour can resemble addiction But: It is not inherently harmful in all cases The danger is in unregulated, high-reward, compulsive use A GROUNDED CONCLUSION If you strip away hype and fear: 👉 Digital media is not “the new drug” in a literal sense 👉 But certain forms of it are engineered to behave like one And for an 11-year-old: Their brain is still wiring reward, focus, and identity So exposure + lack of boundaries = real developmental risk Here are research-grounded, practical limits for an 11-year-old, aligned with bodies like the World Health Organization and American Academy of Pediatrics) : 1. DAILY SCREEN TIME LIMITS (the baseline) ✅ Recommended range (age 10–12) ≤ 2 hours/day recreational screen time Schoolwork does not count toward this! Why this number exists? Consistently across studies, >2–3 hours/day is where risks rise: anxiety & depression sleep disruption lower academic performance Under ~2 hours: outcomes are generally neutral to mildly positive 👉 This is the single most evidence-supported threshold. 2. DAILY STRUCTURE (more important than raw hours) Research shows when and how screens are used matters more than totals. A healthy daily pattern: ❌ No screens before school Improves attention, mood, and learning readiness ❌ No screens 60–90 minutes before bed Protects melatonin and sleep quality ✅ Screens after responsibilities Homework, chores, physical activity first ✅ Break every 30–45 minutes Reduces attention fatigue and overstimulation 3. WEEKLY LIMITS (this is often ignored—but critical) Even if daily use looks fine, weekly accumulation predicts risk. Healthy weekly pattern: ≤ 14 hours/week recreational total At least: 1–2 screen-free days OR half-days 👉 Why: Studies show cumulative exposure affects: attention span emotional regulation dependency patterns 4. GAMING SPECIFIC LIMITS (higher risk category) Gaming has stronger links to addiction-like behaviour than general screen use. Evidence-based limits: Weekdays: 0–60 minutes Weekends: 1–2 hours max Non-negotiables: ❌ No “just one more game” extensions ❌ No late-night gaming ❌ No online multiplayer without supervision (at this age) 👉 Why stricter? Variable reward systems (wins, loot, ranking) → stronger dopamine loops 5. SOCIAL MEDIA (most sensitive category) For 11-year-olds, research leans cautious. Recommended: Ideally: delay full access If allowed: ≤ 30–60 minutes/day Supervised or shared-account use 👉 Why: Strongest links to: anxiety self-esteem issues addictive scrolling patterns 6. SLEEP PROTECTION (non-negotiable rule) Sleep disruption is the most consistently proven harm. Hard boundary: All devices off 1–2 hours before bed No devices in bedroom overnight 👉 Evidence shows: Even passive screen exposure reduces: sleep duration sleep quality next-day cognitive performance 7. REPLACEMENT RULE (this protects development) Research shows harm comes largely from what screens replace. Daily minimums that must stay intact: 9–11 hours sleep 60+ minutes physical activity Face-to-face interaction (family or peers) Offline play / creativity 👉 If screens push these out → problems begin 8. CONTENT QUALITY FILTER (often more important than time) Low-risk use: Educational videos Skill-based games Creative tools (drawing, building, music) High-risk use: Infinite scrolling feeds Fast-cut, high-stimulation videos Competitive online gaming loops 👉 Same time, different outcome. 9. BEHAVIOURAL RED FLAGS (when limits need tightening) Research-backed warning signs: Irritability when screens are removed Sneaking or lying about usage Loss of interest in normal activities Sleep disruption Decline in school performance 👉 If you see these: Reduce access immediately Add structure—not just punishment 10. SIMPLEST EVIDENCE-BASED FRAMEWORK If you want something easy to apply, this works: The “2–1–0 rule” 2 hours max recreational screen time 1 hour off before bed 0 screens in bedroom overnight Backed by sleep, behavioural, and developmental research. BOTTOM LINE: The safest, research-supported zone for an 11-year-old is: Moderate, structured, supervised use The danger zone is: Unrestricted, high-reward, late-night, or compulsive use. 👉 It’s not about banning screens 👉 It’s about preventing the brain from wiring itself around them. THE BRIEF: Global statistics and research regarding extended screen exposure in young adults and teenagers' cerebral development and social behaviour, and a brain comparison to masturbation and other instant gratification. It is all doing the same thing as far as brain development and behaviour in it's addiction? AI EXPLANATION: Yes — there is substantial neuroscience research showing that excessive screen exposure, compulsive social media use, gaming, pornography, masturbation tied to compulsive stimulation, and other instant-gratification behaviours can affect many of the same brain reward systems. But it is important to be accurate: They are not identical addictions, but they can operate through overlapping dopamine/reward circuitry and similar behavioural conditioning mechanisms. That distinction matters scientifically. The core issue: the brain’s reward system! The main system involved is the dopamine reward pathway: ventral tegmental area nucleus accumbens ventral striatum prefrontal cortex These systems regulate: motivation reward-seeking attention impulse control habit formation Research shows adolescence and young adulthood are especially vulnerable because: dopamine systems are highly active impulse control systems are still developing neuroplasticity is very high. Extended Screen Exposure & the Adolescent Brain? Research on internet addiction and compulsive screen use has found: impaired impulse-control networks altered frontal-basal ganglia connectivity increased reward sensitivity reduced executive control One study on adolescents with internet addiction found measurable disruption in brain connectivity involved in: decision-making self-control behavioural regulation This is why compulsive scrolling/gaming can feel: difficult to stop mentally “sticky” emotionally compulsive Why Social Media & Scrolling become Addictive? Social media platforms use what psychologists call: “variable reward schedules” This means: you do not know when the next rewarding thing will appear likes, messages, videos, novelty arrive unpredictably That unpredictability strongly activates dopamine anticipation systems — similar to gambling mechanisms. The dopamine spike is often strongest in: anticipation novelty unpredictability Not necessarily pleasure itself. That is why people keep refreshing feeds compulsively. Pornography, Masturbation & Instant Gratification This area is more controversial publicly, but there is legitimate neuroscience research showing overlap with addiction pathways. Studies have found: ventral striatum activation reward-circuit sensitization cue-reactivity patterns resembling substance addictions Research reviews now classify problematic pornography use as a potential: Behavioural Addiction involving Reward, Motivation, and Memory Circuitry Some neuro-imaging studies found pornography cues produced: stronger reward responses than gaming high anticipatory dopamine activation Are screens, porn, masturbation, gaming, junk food, etc. “the same”? Scientifically: No — but they can train the brain similarly. They all can involve: dopamine-driven reward learning instant gratification compulsive repetition reduced tolerance for delayed rewards habit-loop reinforcement This is why neuroscientists often group them under: “Behavioural Addictions” So the biggest concern is not merely pleasure. It is: Conditioning the Brain toward Constant High Stimulation When the brain becomes accustomed to: rapid novelty instant rewards constant stimulation then slower real-world rewards can begin to feel: boring emotionally flat difficult to sustain attention toward Research and clinicians report associations with: reduced attention span emotional dysregulation lower frustration tolerance reduced motivation social withdrawal anxiety/depression patterns Social Development Effects Extended screen exposure in teens is associated with: less face-to-face interaction weaker conversational skills increased loneliness despite “connection” emotional dependency on digital validation This does not happen to everyone equally, but trends are consistent in large studies. A Major Issue is: replacement behaviour Screens replace: real friendships boredom tolerance outdoor activity emotional resilience long-form thinking The Prefrontal Cortex Problem The prefrontal cortex handles: self-control planning delayed gratification emotional regulation It is still developing into the mid-20s. At the same time: adolescent dopamine systems are hypersensitive to rewards This creates a perfect storm: high reward drive weak impulse control That is why teens are particularly vulnerable to compulsive behaviours. Important Nuance: Masturbation itself is not automatically “Brain Damage” Research does not support the claim that occasional masturbation itself inherently destroys the brain. The concern arises when there is: compulsive use pornography dependency escalation isolation emotional dependency reward-system conditioning That distinction matters. A Useful Comparison Think of the reward system like this: Healthy Reward Hyperstimulating Reward conversation endless scrolling exercise compulsive gaming relationship bonding compulsive porn use learning a skill rapid novelty feeds The hyper-stimulating rewards produce: faster easier more frequent dopamine spikes The brain can begin preferring them over effort-based rewards. The Strongest Scientific Conclusion - The best-supported conclusion from current neuroscience is: Excessive exposure to hyper-stimulating instant-gratification behaviours can condition adolescent reward systems in ways that resemble behavioural addiction patterns. That includes: social media gaming compulsive pornography use endless scrolling other high-dopamine digital habits But there is also HOPE: Neuro-Plasticity works both ways! The adolescent brain is highly plastic. That means harmful patterns can form more easily —but healthier pathways can also be rebuilt. Research shows improvement with: reduced compulsive exposure exercise sleep restoration delayed gratification habits real-world social interaction meaningful goals boredom tolerance training The Balanced Conclusion The evidence does not support saying: “all screens are drugs” But the evidence does support saying: Many modern digital systems are engineered to exploit the same reward-learning mechanisms involved in behavioural addiction! And in developing brains, excessive exposure can meaningfully shape: attention motivation emotional regulation social development impulse control especially when use becomes compulsive or replaces real-world growth. _____ 🧠 Year 6 Lesson: “Are Screens Controlling Me?” Time: 60 minutes Subject Links (QLD KLA): Health & Physical Education (wellbeing, decision-making) Digital Technologies (impact of tech on behaviour) English (reflection, reasoning) 👇 STUDENT WORK PACK ✏️ PART 1 — Quick Start (5 mins) Circle your answer honestly: I use screens every day YES / NO I feel annoyed when I have to stop YES / NO I use screens before bed YES / NO I sometimes lose track of time YES / NO 👉 If you said YES to 2 or more → your brain might be getting “hooked” 🧠 PART 2 — What’s Going On in My Brain? • BEAST-KING OF THE STUMP!

There is a pattern written into Scripture that is far deeper than history, yet no less real. The account of Nebuchadnezzar in Daniel 4 is not merely a story about a king who lost his mind, but a literal shadow and revelation of what man becomes when he is cut off from the living root and left to dwell in the stump of his own fleshly choosing. This is the condition of a fallen humanity - completely unspiritual! Nebuchadnezzar stood as the highest expression of earthly power - wealth, dominion, glory, and self-exaltation. He looked over his kingdom and declared, “Is not this great Babylon, that I have built… by the might of my power, and for the honour of my majesty?” In that very moment, the stump was revealed. Pride is the stump. Self-worship is the stump. Flesh reign of the fleshly desires, plans and lusts, without Alahim ... this is the stump! And then it happened! Not gradually. Not symbolically. Not metaphorically. IMMEDIATELY! He was driven from men. He ate grass like oxen. His body was drenched with the dew. His hair grew like eagle’s feathers. His nails like birds’ claws. This was not a poetic description of depression or mental insanity. The text goes out of its way to describe physical transformation. Behaviour followed form. Form revealed nature. He became OUTWARDLY what he had always been INWARDLY: A BEAST! SO WHAT IS A “BEAST”? HEBREW UNDERSTANDING The Hebrew word often translated “beast” is behemah, a living creature, but more specifically, one driven by instinct, appetite, and the ground. It is life without upward awareness or higher consciousness. It is existence bound to the earth, ruled by desire, not spirit. A beast does not look up. A beast does not discern. A beast consumes, reacts, survives, and dominates. This is the key: a beast is not defined merely by its body, but by its nature. So when Nebuchadnezzar became a beast, Scripture is not softening the blow; it is exposing the truth. His inner condition was made fully manifest in his outer state ...... THE STUMP PRODUCES BEASTS! STUMP THINKING ... HEBREW UNDERSTANDING The systems of this world - religion, psychology, medicine, science, and philosophy - all attempt to explain this account in ways that remain within the stump. They call it: A psychological breakdown A rare mental disorder (like “boanthropy”) A symbolic humbling A literary device Why? Because the stump cannot comprehend transformation beyond the flesh, so it must reinterpret the supernatural into something manageable, put it in a box and attempt to control it. But this fleshly explanation falls short in several ways: The text says “the thing was fulfilled immediately” - not gradually. It lasted a defined prophetic period (“seven times/years”). His kingdom remained intact, waiting for his return. His understanding returned suddenly, not through treatment or recovery. He himself testified to Alahim’s direct intervention. This is not how mental illness behaves. This is the divine, supernatural power of judgment and later revelation. This is what happens when Alahim fully hands a man over to what he's chosen to be! THE STUMP: PRIDE ROOTED IN FLESH The dream itself reveals the mystery. The great tree is cut down, but the stump remains, bound with iron and bronze. That stump is the fleshly nature, restrained, preserved, but not removed. Nebuchadnezzar lived in the stump. And in the stump, he became a beast. This is the condition of humanity today. People are not only becoming uncontrollable beasts in their behaviour, but they are also revealing the beast that already rules them. REVELATION: THE BEAST MULTIPLIED What was revealed in one king is now global. The book of Revelation speaks of the beast - not merely as a system, but as a nature that governs humanity. And it gives a number: 666 - the number of man. Not a random code. A declaration. Man, fully given over to his fleshly self, is a beast. The mark of the beast is not something placed on the skin; it is something expressed through behaviour: Pride without restraint Lust without conscience Power without mercy Consumption without gratitude Identity rooted in self, not spirit This is worship of the beast. Because whatever you follow, you worship, and there is no earthly way out! THE MODERN WORLD: BEASTS IN THE STUMP! Look around. The signs are not hidden: Love grows cold, Compassion fades, Violence increases, Self becomes the highest authority, Truth is replaced with personal reality, Pleasure overrides discipline, The body is exalted above the spirit. This is humanity returning to the beast. Just as Nebuchadnezzar did. NO SPIRIT! THE ABOMINATION: SATAN ENTHRONED IN MAN Scripture speaks of the “abomination of desolation”, something that "sits and reigns where it should not". This is not at all a future temple event. It is a present reality, for when satan sits on the throne of men and women's hearts, receiving worship every time they consider them SELF instead of their real Alahim Yahusha, then pride is governing, and flesh is worshipped, which means the spirit of the evil one is being uplifted, exalted, praised, and worshipped. This is the true IDENTITY-THEFT and idolatrous worship happening in the world! Satan does not need to appear outwardly if he is enthroned inwardly. And where he reigns, beastly nature and behaviour manifest! THE ONLY WAY OUT ... NEW BIRTH FROM ABOVE! Nebuchadnezzar’s restoration did not come from within the stump. It came when he lifted his eyes to heaven. That is the turning point. Not self-improvement. Not behaviour modification. Not intellectual awakening. But an eye-opening revelation of Who Alahim truly is and what we (mankind) are in His sight. The King's understanding returned when he acknowledged the Most High Alahim. Only then did he become human again. YAHUSHA ALAHIM: THE LIVING ROOT The stump cannot deliver itself. The flesh cannot redeem itself. The beast cannot become a man again by effort. The only way out is through a different root - A NEW FIRSTFRUIT - LIVING ONE. This is the higher concept we're invited into: Yahusha Alahim is not merely a figure in history - He is the living reality that restores man from beast to son. Where the stump produces beast behaviour, the living root produces: Love Compassion Kindness Meekness Self-control These are not moral efforts. They are the fruit of a different nature. FINAL REVELATION ... THIS WAS A SIGN Nebuchadnezzar was not just judged. He was made into a sign. A living prophecy. What happened to him outwardly is happening to the world inwardly. And what happened to him happens to everyone: THE QUESTION Are you living from the stump…or from the root? Because one produces beasts. The other produces life. YAHUSHA SPEAKS VERY DIFFERENTLY TO THE BEAST, and we need to learn His Secret Language to come out of our beastly STUMP mindset. Along the same thread of LEARNING THE LANGUAGE, it's vital to know Who Yahusha truly is, otherwise the HIGHER CONCEPT of His spiritual language is completely HIDDEN from us. We need to recognise where we are up to in the DELIVERANCE VEIN, or if we've entered the Narrow Gate at all yet? For only by recognising and seeing that YAHUSHA IS ALAHIM, the Lamb on the Throne of Heaven, can we truly encounter His presence through REPENTANCE and the SPIRIT & FIRE BAPTISMS, where we are given the spiritual power to OVERCOME our fleshly SELF-LIFE in order to move aside within ourselves and let Him move through us, expressing HIS PERSONALITY in our day, the way He wants to, not the way we want things done. The same goes for studying the Word, going deep and really seeing the HIGHER CONCEPT of Him within the text, not just as written. This is an experience not available through fleshly education or ploys. Only Yahusha can REVEAL His CONCEALED truths to those HE chooses to. And our daily behaviour makes a huge difference in what we receive from Him. So we must ask ourselves where we are up to in the Vein, how much we have really stepped aside for Him and how much of our SELF is still front and centre in everything we do, because if we are not SEEKING HIM with EVERY THOUGHT and all the energy we have, then do we really know Him? Is He really our Alahim or are we our own source of idolatrous worship still ... it's all up to us - how far we want to go!

  • JOSHUA: Moses' Servant for 40+ years

JOSHUA: Moses' Servant for 40+ Years! The transition from shadow to command is never sudden, though the moment it happens feels like the ground has shifted beneath your feet. For Joshua, son of Nun, that moment didn't arrive in a flash of dramatic revelation but after more than four decades of watching, learning, serving, and waiting. When Moses stood before the assembled nation of Israel and declared that his time had ended, when the safety-net of forty years of supernatural guidance was suddenly withdrawn, Joshua must have felt the terrifying weight of the mantle that was now irrevocably his alone to carry! Before we ever see Joshua commanding armies around Jericho's walls, before he allocates tribal territories or conquers Canaan's giants, we must understand the man who stood in someone else's shadow for a lifetime. Joshua did not emerge from the wilderness as a fully formed military genius or spiritual leader. He was forged slowly, deliberately, and often painfully through decades of apprenticeship under a man who spoke with the Creator face to face. This gradual preparation is what makes his story so profoundly human and eternally relevant. The warrior-servant first appears in Scripture not as a commander but as a soldier following orders. When the Amalekites attacked Israel at Rephidim, Moses commanded Joshua to choose men and go out to fight while he himself would stand on the hilltop with the staff of Alahim in his hands. This early battle taught Joshua a lesson that would define his entire approach to warfare - victory was never merely about military strategy or numerical superiority. When Moses' hands were lifted toward heaven, Israel prevailed in battle. When his arms grew heavy and dropped, the enemy gained ground. Joshua learned in the dust of that desert battlefield that supernatural warfare required supernatural connection, that the greatest victories were won not by might alone but by the One who commanded both heaven and earth. For over forty years, Joshua watched the impossible become routine. He saw the Egyptian Empire dismantled through ten devastating plagues. He witnessed the Red Sea parting like curtains before the breath of Alahim, with dry ground appearing where moments before there had been only treacherous waters. He stood at Sinai's base when the mountain itself became a burning pyre of divine presence, smoke and fire mingling with thunder and lightning while the ground shook beneath millions of feet. He watched rebels like Korah, Dathan, and Abiram swallowed alive by the earth for their rebellious presumption. He saw the Shekinah-Glory descend upon the Tabernacle in such overwhelming weight that even Moses could not enter. He witnessed daily manna falling from heaven, water gushing from rock, and a pillar of cloud by day and fire by night, guiding millions through trackless wilderness. All of this Joshua saw from a position of humble service. He was Moses' assistant, his aide-de-camp, the one who lingered near the Tent of Meeting while others scattered to their tents. When Moses went in to speak with Yahuah face to face, Joshua remained nearby, perhaps waiting for instruction, perhaps hoping for a glimpse, perhaps just learning what it meant to be constantly aware of divine presence. He was not merely a military commander but a student in the school of supernatural leadership, observing how a human mediator carried the weight of a nation's rebellion while interceding for their survival. The psychological reality of this forty-year apprenticeship cannot be overstated. For four decades, Joshua never had to make the final call. Moses did that! He never bore ultimate responsibility for the nation's destiny. Moses carried that crushing weight! Joshua fought battles while Moses carried the grief of rebellion. Joshua witnessed miracles while Moses wrestled with divine frustration. There was always Moses, Aaron, wise elders, someone greater to whom Joshua could appeal, someone whose authority was unquestionable, whose connection to the Almighty was undeniable, whose voice carried the weight of Heaven itself. And then, without warning or gradual transition, the announcement came. Moses, now 120 years old, gathered the entire nation and spoke words that must have struck Joshua like physical blows, and pierced like a knife into his heart. "I am a hundred and twenty years old now, unable to go out and come in, and I won't be your leader anymore." The phrase "unable to go out and come in" was military language, not a confession of frailty. It meant his commission had ended, his time as their commander and shepherd-leader was complete. The campaign would continue - Yahuah would indeed lead them across the Jordan, He would indeed destroy the Canaanite nations just as He had destroyed Sihon and Og - but Moses would not be leading them or be a part of it. THE SAFETY-NET WAS GONE! The man who had confronted Egypt's Pharaoh, who had commanded seas to part and fire to descend, who had mediated between a rebellious nation and their offended Creator - this man was climbing Mount Nebo to die... Joshua must now stand alone and lead! What must that have felt like in the quiet moments after the public announcement? Joshua had spent his entire adult life watching Moses do what no one else could do. How do you replace a man who split seas and spoke with Alahim face to face? How do you step into sandals that seem impossibly large to fill? The voice that had always spoken through Moses would now need to speak directly to Joshua. The commands that had always come through established channels would now need fresh confirmation. The supernatural protection that had seemed guaranteed by Moses' presence would now depend entirely on Joshua's obedience and relationship with the Mighty Rock. The emotional toll must have been crushing. This was not merely a leadership transition - it was a loss of security, certainty, and stability. Joshua had never known Israel without Moses as their shepherd-mediator. For forty years, whenever the people sinned, Moses interceded. Whenever they complained, Moses pleaded. Whenever they rebelled, Moses negotiated with divine justice. Now Joshua would stand alone between a stubborn people and their mighty Creator, carrying both their rebellion and divine response on his own shoulders. But Moses understood the terror his successor must have felt, which is why he called Joshua forward publicly and repeated the command that would become the refrain of the entire book that bears Joshua's name: "Be strong and courageous." This was not empty encouragement but a recognition that courage is precisely what is required when you suddenly carry the weight that once belonged to someone greater. The command was repeated because fear whispers what courage must silence - the lie that says: "Who do you think you are?" "You are not good enough!" "You cannot possibly succeed" "YOU'RE NOT MOSES!!!" HOW DO YOU REPLACE A MAN WHO SPLIT SEAS AND SPOKE WITH ALAHIM FACE TO FACE? ... YOU DON’T! YOU STEP INTO YOUR OWN ASSIGNMENT ... LISTENING, TRUSTING & OBEYING! Joshua was never meant to be Moses! He was meant to be Joshua, with his own calling, his own relationship with the Almighty and a divine mandate to fulfil in this wild, wilderness Quarry! The transfer of leadership would be supernatural in its timing and divine in its authorisation, but the great pressure would remain relentlessly real. Before Joshua ever led Israel into battle, before he faced down Jericho's fortified walls or Canaan's giants, he first received a warning that would define his entire leadership philosophy. Deuteronomy 32 contains the Song of Moses, and though Moses delivered it, Joshua was present as it was spoken, perhaps even assisting as Moses taught it to the people. This was not sentimental poetry but Covenant Reality - a stark prophecy about the nation he was being called to lead. The Song revealed that Yahuah is the Mighty Rock, the Tsûr - Hebrew for a towering cliff or mountain ridge, not merely a decorative stone or pebble. Joshua had watched Israel drink from that Rock in the wilderness. He had seen that Rock defend them against impossible odds. He had learned that when protection was withdrawn, even one enemy could scatter thousands. Strength was never in numbers, but entirely relational. If the Rock fought for them, they were unstoppable. If the Rock withdrew, they were fragile! But the Song also revealed something terrifying: Israel was prone to rebellion. Joshua was not inheriting a perfect nation but a stubborn, hard-hearted one. He heard the prophecy that Israel would forget, rebel, chase other deities, and suffer exile. Imagine hearing that your future leadership would include watching the very people you lead turn against the One who delivered them, knowing that divine judgment would inevitably follow. Yet Joshua must lead this nation of Israel anyway! This is courage - moving forward when you know the future includes failure, when you understand that not everyone will follow you, when you realise that perfect outcomes are not guaranteed. The Song taught Joshua that his leadership was not contingent on Israel's perfection but on Alahim's faithfulness, not on the people's response but on the Rock's reliability! The death of Moses represents one of Scripture's most poignant moments of leadership transition. Moses climbed Mount Nebo and received a supernatural vision no human eye could naturally perceive—from Dan in the far north to Judah in the south, the entire Promised Land spread before him in panoramic view. Then he died, and Yahuah Himself buried him in a valley near Beth-Peor, hiding the location so that no one could turn his grave into a shrine of idolatry. The greatest prophet Israel had ever known disappeared from history without monument or marker, leaving Joshua standing in the plains of Moab with thirty days of mourning and a lifetime of preparation suddenly put to the test. No more going to Moses for clarification. No more asking Aaron for priestly confirmation. No more watching someone else carry the nation's grief. Joshua must now hear for himself, obey for himself, and lead for himself. What must that first night after Moses was gone have been like? The weight of two million people, the Jordan still uncrossed, Jericho still fortified, giants still occupying the land - Joshua had seen miracles for forty years, but always from behind Moses' leadership. Now the voice must speak to him directly. Now the command must come to him personally. Now the obedience must be his alone. This is the terrifying beauty of succession - there is always a moment when the servant becomes the leader, when watching becomes doing, when preparation becomes performance. Joshua's forty-year apprenticeship teaches us something critical about leadership development: it is not built in the spotlight but forged in proximity, obedience, and long hidden faithfulness. Joshua fought when told, waited when told, followed when told, and stayed near the Tent when others wandered off. He was not ambitious but available, not seeking a position but remaining faithful in his present assignment. The Book of Joshua is not merely about military conquest or territorial allocation. It is about stepping from shadow into responsibility, about trusting the Mighty Rock without leaning on the shepherd Moses, about hearing the divine voice without a human mediator. Joshua's entire life had prepared him for this one terrifying moment - the moment when Moses was gone, when the command came fresh from heaven: "Be strong and courageous!" The Rock had not changed. The Covenant had not changed. The land still awaited. But the mediator had shifted. And that shift required a kind of courage that only comes from knowing Who stands behind the command, from understanding that the Mighty Rock who had been Moses' security would now be Joshua's strength! As we begin this study of the Book of Joshua, we do so recognising that we are stepping into the story of a man who watched the impossible become possible for forty years before being asked to make it happen himself. We are entering the narrative of someone who learned that leadership is not about becoming someone else but about becoming fully who you were created to be, under the authority of the One who never changes. The plains of Moab are behind us now. The Jordan stands before us. And Joshua is about to step forward, leading a nation into their destiny while discovering his own along the way.

Yahusha's Word is Abstractly Discerned UNDERSTANDING SCRIPTURE So you've just realised that Yahusha is Alahim and now you want to get to know Him - what He requires, how He feels about certain behaviours, what went down with the history of His people? Yes it's all there in the Scripture, but it's a huge book and there's a few simple tools you should know before tackling it, so you can get all the juicy life out of every page. Even if you've read it before while in religion, you're about to experience something completely different now that you have the inspiration of Yahusha's Spirit ...... it ain't just ink on a page! There is a whole new HIGHER CONCEPT - A NEW SPIRITUAL LANGUAGE TO BECOME FLUENT IN, and a deeper experience to partake of as you begin putting yourself aside (picking up your stake and following Yahusha to the death of your self-life) and allowing Him to flow through you with the sweetness of His fruits of the Loving Behaviours. CONTEXT Yahusha wants us all to be (and live) 'in context' with His Scripture, looking at things the way He sees them. He said “take My yoke upon you for My burden is light”. He doesn't strain our minds with confusion, but lines everything up in order for us, with ease. CONTEXT : the parts of a written or spoken statement that precede or follow a specific word or passage, usually influencing its meaning or effect. So let's see how to correctly discern Yahusha's Living Word in a fool proof-way, which is such an exciting step with lots of variation. CHERRY-PICKING We must never cherry-pick a verse and hold it up to support a point, but instead, always CHECK THE CORRECT CONTEXT of the Scriptures as we read. We do this by looking at the surrounding chapters (before and after) of whatever verse we've been direct to. Then ask yourself : * Who is the verse talking to (us or them)? * What was the purpose of the Instruction given? * Is it cultural or behavioural, temporary or for all generations? * Is this how the verse should be behaved today in the 21st Century? ABSTRACT The most encouraging thing for us to know is that we need no man or woman to show us how to live or interpret Scripture, for Yahusha will teach us by His Spirit through His Word. Yes the same Spirit of life that inspired many people to write the 66 Books of Scripture is the same being Who breathes life into us as we abstractly discern for ourselves, what we are reading. We do this by understanding that TO GET THE FRESH UNDERSTANDING FROM YAHUSHA WE OFTEN HAVE TO `READ BETWEEN THE LINES' OF THE INK ON THE PAGE. Does this mean we just make stuff up with no accountability? Of course not! Yahusha's voice is so important to us and if we consciously listen to Him while we're reading, he will REVEAL BIZARRE, ABSTRACT TRUTHS to us. He does this all day long if we're listening. He doesn't speak to us in chapter and verse, or require us to memorise chunks of Scripture to communicate with Him. He's close and real and intimate, meeting us right where we are to love us. 2 EASY STEPS Anyone who's entered the Narrow Gate Vein of Yahusha Alahim can unlock the truths in the Scriptures for themselves and break them down into simple daily behaviours by following The Behaviour Revolution's 2-Easy-Steps for Studying : If you are feeling something, or stuck in a situation, a worry or problem, or maybe you just come across something in Scripture (or life) that you don't really understand - try and BREAK IT DOWN INTO ONE WORD (Yahusha will usually give you the word, while you're in the Scripture, so listen to Him). Then look up that word : 1. GET THE HEBREW UNDERSTANDING All Scripture was spoken and written in Hebrew (and at one point, all the earth spoke this language too). It is the inspired language, so looking up your word in a Hebrew Lexicon will really show you Yahusha's mind on what it means. The type of Lexicon matters not since they are all man-made anyway, hence Yahusha's Spirit is needed to make adjustments to anything you read. 2. GET THE SCRIPTURAL UNDERSTANDING Yahusha's Word is divinely inspired also, so once we have our chosen word looked up in the Hebrew Lexicon, it's time to find out what Scripture says about it ... but it's a big book - so where do we look to find our topic? Just ask Google or even A.I these days - but like most tools, we must check their accuracy!! Search, and lots of Scripture references will come up for you to look at. Most of the verses on the internet will be from bad translations with the wrong names in them, but you can still use the references to look the verses up in the BYNV or any other Yahusha-inspired Scripture translation. THROUGH YOUR HEBREW & SCRIPTURAL UNDERSTANDING, YAHUSHA WILL GIVE YOU THE ANSWER TO YOUR PREDICAMENT AND ABSTRACT DISCERNMENT OF THE WORD YOU LOOKED UP . IT WILL ALWAYS BE ABOUT BEHAVIOUR (that is why The 3 Rules are so helpful) CLICK HERE FOR A GOOD ONLINE HEBREW LEXICON THIS SYSTEM LIBERATES YAHUSHA'S PEOPLE AWAY FROM ALL THE CARPET-BAGGING TEACHERS, PREACHERS, PASTORS AND RABBIS WITH THEIR INTELLECTUALISED KNOWLEDGE, ALLOWING HIS SHEEP TO HEAR HIS VOICE AND BE PERSONALLY LED AND TRAINED BY THEIR BRIDEGROOM ! Along this same thread of LEARNING THE LANGUAGE, it's vital to know Who Yahusha truly is, otherwise the HIGHER CONCEPT of His spiritual language is completely HIDDEN from us. Is He really our Alahim, or are we our own source of idolatrous worship still ... it's all up to us - how far we want to go <3 <3 <3 VIDEOS LATEST ARTICLES : KNOW WHO YOU ARE!
